Anyone have internship search advice? I'm needing to find an internship for next summer. I'm a psychology major, but I'm open to many types of internships since I have to do two for my service based scholarship. I'm able to relocate for the summer for an internship as well, so don't be worried about specific location advice. I'm more interested in others advice of where to search, and what they did as a blind intern, issues, and so on.
Hey,
I know this is a slightly different thing, but as part of my degree course, we had to spend time in the country where our chosen language was spoken (France and Spain, in my case).
In France, I found an internship in a voluntary agency, 'little brothers of the poor' - and a couple of my friends did voluntary work with various charities in French-speaking countries. So, have you considered work in that sector? Lots of organisations, at least from what I've seen, are delighted to get help for free, as they usually don't have the budget to pay for it.
I found that there weren't any problems during either internship I did, but that could just have been luck. My only advice, as obvious as it may sound, is to be up-front with them about your visual impairment, and show them that you can do things just as efficiently as anyone else - sounds obvious, but it can just puts them at their ease.
Hope this helps!
Just depends on what you want to do...
Lakeria, I have many interests. lol
Start there, and get to work! I'm already doing it as a freshman.
I've been doing it, but places to find internships at are becoming harder and harder for everyone.
